The Amazing Race 9 is the ninth season of the reality television show, The Amazing Race. It premiered on February 28, 2006 and ended on May 17, 2006 on CBS. The entire season was released on DVD (exclusively only through Amazon.com) on October 23, 2012.[1]

Synopsis[]

The three-time Emmy Award-winning reality adventure series returns to its international format where teams of two will travel to exotic locations, spanning five continents, with stops in the Middle East, Moscow and Sicily, to name a few. The 11 teams will compete against one another in a race around the world for a $1 million prize.[2]

Production[]

The show began airing on Tuesdays in the first five episodes, but was moved to a new timeslot of Wednesdays at 8 p.m., starting with the sixth episode to make room for CSI: Miami on the former timeslot.

Applications for this season were due on July 26, 2005 (one day after the original deadline), while interviews were conducted in October 2005. Following the success of The Amazing Race: Family Edition, which featured teams of four family members racing in the United States, Canada, and Central America, this season returned to the standard format of eleven teams of two competing in a race around the world. Filming began on November 7, 2005 and finished on December 3, 2005. This season traveled a total of 59,000 miles (95,000 km) across 10 countries in five continents.

Duracell, Travelocity, and T-Mobile were the official sponsors during this season and provided prizes throughout the race to winning teams on certain legs.

Notes:
1: Leg 3 was a double-length leg, with two Detours and two Roadblocks, shown over two episodes. The placements listed in the first column reflect the order teams arrived at the leg's halfway point.
2: Ray & Yolanda (who initially arrived 2nd) and BJ & Tyler (5th) were each issued a 15-minute penalty for taking a bus instead of a train all the way to the Isthmos Train Station. While the penalty resulted in Ray & Yolanda dropping to 3rd, BJ & Tyler's placement was not affected. Lake & Michelle were also subject to the same penalty, but they were the last team to arrive to the Pit Stop, resulting in their elimination without the penalty being applied.
3: While neither Ray nor Yolanda was shown performing the Roadblock on the final leg before arriving at the Finish Line, a montage shown on The Early Show the next day showed Yolanda as the member who had done the Roadblock task. This is included in the Roadblock count.
4: The finishes in the first half of the superleg in Leg 3 is not counted as part of the average. Only the final finish in the leg is counted toward the average.
