The Amazing Race 12 is the twelveth season of the reality television show, The Amazing Race. It premiered on November 4, 2007 and ended on January 20, 2008 on CBS. The entire season was released on DVD (exclusively only through Amazon.com) on March 24, 2014.[1]

Production[]

Applications for The Amazing Race 12 were due on January 16, 2007. Semi-finalist interviews were held in February 2007 or March 2007 and final casting interviews took place in April 2007.

The season was initially scheduled to air mid-season,[2] but was bumped up to November 4, 2007 due to low ratings for Viva Laughlin.[3]

Filming began on July 8, 2007 and ended July 29, 2007. This season traveled a total of 30,000 mi (48,000 km) across 10 countries in four continents. Travelocity was the official sponsor during this season and provided prizes to winning teams on every legs (except the final leg).

The producers of the show initially stated that Non-Elimination Legs would be dropped,[4][5] but this turned out not to be the case as only the penalty for coming in last on a Non-Elimination Leg was changed, from the team being Marked for Elimination to being required to perform a Speed Bump on the following leg. The element would later be implemented in the thirty-fourth season.

This season also dropped the Yield, which had been in place since The Amazing Race 5, in favoring of replacing it with the U-Turn.

It was also noted that the production of this season ran into the production of The Amazing Race Asia 2 (which concurrently filmed as the same time with this season) in an unspecified airport.[6]

Notes:
1: Nathan & Jennifer initially arrived 2nd, but did not take legal transportation to the Pit Stop. They were asked to go back to the end of the Detour and take a taxi back to the Pit Stop. Kynt & Vyxsin checked in during that time period, dropping them to 3rd.
2: Kynt & Vyxsin used their U-Turn power on Nicolas & Donald. However, Nicolas & Donald were actually ahead of them, thus the U-Turn had no effect.
