Can Horses Smell Fear? is the second episode of The Amazing Race 10.
One team goes into an emotional tailspin when they're thrown from their horse during a detour, while alliances start forming between several of the teams.
The pressure starts to take its toll on several of the racers as precious time is lost when teams are forced to switch tasks mid-stream, while others struggle to finish a flaming roadblock. Meanwhile, alliances start to form between several of the teams who realize they might be considered the underdogs of the Race.
The order of departure from the Great Wall of China are as follows:
Teams must take a bus to Erenhot. The buses to Erenhot depart two hours apart and can only carry only five teams. Once in Erenhot, teams must take a train to Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. Upon arrival, teams must find the Choijin Lama Monastery to receive their next clue after observing a ceremony.
Teams must take a Soviet military jeep and travel to a riverbed in Terelj. At the riverbed, they must don traditional Mongolian army hats and ride 2.5 miles on horse back until they reach Gorkhi-Terelj National Park, where their next clue is waiting.
Choice A: Take It Down
Teams must choose one of ten traditional nomadic shelters known as yurt. They must take the canvas and roof down, hold it up, and attach it to a camel. Once completed, a nomad would give them their next clue.
Choice B: Fill It Up
Teams must take a cart and have to take four water containers pulled to an indigenous ox-like animal called hynik to the river 500 yards away. Then they had to fill the containers up at a stream, bring them back by their hynik, and fill a barrel to the designated line. Once completed, a nomad would give them their next clue.
Teams must drive to the town of Gachuurt and find the Hotel Mongolia to find their next clue.
The team member assigned to perform this Roadblock would have to string a traditional Mongolian bow and shoot a flaming arrow to hit a target 160 feet away. After hitting the target, the team could run to the Pit Stop at the pavilion on a hill.
The Roadblock performers per team are underlined:
- David & Mary
- Duke & Lauren
- Dustin & Kandice
- Erwin & Godwin
- Kellie & Jamie
- Lyn & Karlyn
- Peter & Sarah
- Rob & Kimberly
- Tom & Terry
- Tyler & James
Kellie decided to quit the Roadblock, unable to aim an arrow to the target, and decided to take the four hour penalty.
